Your Path to Parenthood

1

Consultation and Assessment

Begin with a comprehensive evaluation of both partners to assess fertility health, discuss medical histories, and develop a personalised treatment plan tailored to your needs.

2

Ovarian Stimulation

Administer fertility medications to stimulate the ovaries, encouraging the development of multiple mature eggs for retrieval.

3

TESA (Testicular Sperm Aspiration)

Perform a minimally invasive procedure to extract sperm directly from the testes, which is particularly beneficial for men with azoospermia (absence of sperm in the ejaculate).

4

ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection)

Inject a single healthy sperm directly into each mature egg to facilitate fertilisation, increasing the chances of successful embryo development, especially in cases of male infertility.

5

Embryo Culture and Selection

Monitor the fertilised eggs as they develop into embryos over several days. Based on quality and development, select viable embryos for transfer.

6

Embryo Transfer and Luteal Phase Support

Transfer the selected embryo(s) into the uterus through a simple procedure, aiming for implantation and the establishment of pregnancy. Provide hormonal support to prepare the uterine lining for implantation and support early pregnancy.

7

Pregnancy Test and Follow-Up

A blood test will be conducted approximately two weeks after the embryo transfer to determine whether pregnancy has been achieved. Ongoing support and follow-up ensure a smooth journey.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

■ What is TESA-ICSI, and how does it work?

TESA involves extracting sperm directly from the testes in cases of azoospermia (no sperm in the ejaculate). The retrieved sperm is then used in ICSI, where a single sperm is injected into an egg for fertilisation. This combined approach is practical in overcoming severe male infertility challenges.

TESA-ICSI is recommended for men with azoospermia (obstructive or non-obstructive), very low sperm count, failed vasectomy reversals, or other conditions preventing natural sperm production. It is also suitable for couples experiencing male-factor infertility.

TESA is a minimally invasive procedure performed under local anaesthesia. Most men experience mild discomfort during or after the procedure, which resolves quickly. Pain relievers can manage post-procedure soreness.

Success rates depend on factors such as the quality of retrieved sperm, the woman’s age, and egg quality. On average, TESA-ICSI has 40-60% success rates per cycle for achieving pregnancy.

During TESA, a fine needle is inserted into the testes to aspirate tissue containing sperm. The procedure is done under local anaesthesia, and the extracted sperm is processed in the laboratory for ICSI.

Yes, TESA is specifically designed for men with azoospermia. In cases of non-obstructive azoospermia, sperm may still be present in small quantities within the testes and can be retrieved successfully.

TESA is generally safe, but minor risks include bleeding, infection, or temporary discomfort at the extraction site. ICSI itself is a safe procedure with a very low risk of complications.

The TESA procedure typically takes about 20-30 minutes. The complete ICSI cycle, including ovarian stimulation, egg retrieval, sperm injection, and embryo transfer, takes approximately 4-6 weeks.

Yes, sperm retrieved through TESA can be frozen for future use. This is especially useful if additional ICSI cycles are needed or if timing the embryo transfer in a future cycle is preferred.

Preparation involves maintaining a healthy lifestyle, avoiding smoking and alcohol, and following your doctor’s instructions on medications or dietary supplements. Men undergoing TESA may need to abstain from ejaculation for a few days before the procedure to optimise sperm retrieval.
